Artist based between London and Icheon, South Korea

Seonhong Im is a ceramic artist whose sculptural and participatory practice explores how experiences of nature, care and time can be translated through material, making and space.

Working primarily with porcelain, Im creates vessels, suspended forms and installations composed of individually hand-formed botanical elements. Repetition is central to her process: each small unit records a gesture of attention, while their accumulation transforms fragile details into larger sculptural structures.

Her practice developed from the experience of tending a garden beside her studio in Korea. Observing plants bloom, change and disappear led her to consider care not as a means of preserving life indefinitely, but as a way of staying attentive to what is temporary and beyond control. Through clay, she explores how the sensory qualities of the garden can be carried into the everyday spaces around us, creating opportunities for slow looking, tactile engagement and shared reflection.

Alongside her studio practice, Im develops participatory clay projects that invite people to observe, touch and make together, transforming individual responses to nature into shared forms and environments.

Im is completing an MA in Ceramics & Glass at the Royal College of Art, London, supported by the Paolozzi Travel Scholarship in Ceramics & Glass. She previously completed a BFA in Ceramics at Kyung Hee University and studied at Korea Ceramic Art High School, a specialist secondary school dedicated to ceramic art.
